COMMITTEE MEMBER OPEN CALL

GENERATOR seeks motivated individuals to join our dynamic voluntary committee. GENERATORprojects is an artist-led space in Dundee, developing contemporary art exhibitions, screenings and events. We are a close-knit group, dedicated to the development of Dundee’s creative sector and creating a community of care around our organisation, and we’re looking for like-minded people to join our cause!

Working closely together, the GENERATOR committee programmes events and exhibitions for all audiences, introducing exciting emerging and graduate artists to our audience, which includes the GENERATOR membership, the local community and even further afield.

Committee members will be engaged in every aspect of running the contemporary art programme including curation, events management, fundraising, marketing, gallery outreach and administration. You will gain essential professional development experience as well as developing skills applicable to your own artistic practice.

The committee holds meetings once every two weeks, with an expected commitment of 16 hours of work per week, although this time varies week to week, depending on activity. The maximum term that can be served on the committee is 2 years; it is expected that committee members will commit to this timescale to the best of their ability.

Applications from all backgrounds are welcomed and we actively encourage applications from communities under-represented in the art sector. We are working towards increased diversity within the GENERATOR committee and so will prioritise applications from people of colour, those from a lower socio economic background, neurodiverse people, people with disabilities and members of the LGBTQI+ community when making our decision.

We would encourage practising artists to apply for this role, but there are no specific qualifications necessary, and we welcome applications from those outside of formal arts training. We do, however, highlight the importance of flexibility, motivation, and passion for contemporary art practice. Our success depends on maintaining an environment of support, as we work together to ensure all of our voices are heard and appreciated.

We are currently looking to fill two committee member positions. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals interested in taking on the role of treasurer. No prior experience or knowledge of this role is necessary, just a willingness to learn the ins and outs of budgeting and taking care of the finances of a charitable organisation.

This is a voluntary position, although we currently have an incubator fund in place, which would entitle you to the following:

Reimbursement for studio costs for your full two-year term (if applicable)

Access to a professional development fund

Participation in artist exchanges with the opportunity to exhibit your own work with other artist-run initiatives.

At the moment, we are working towards a change of constitution and restructuring of the organisation. We hope that this will mean (funding dependant) that committee members can be more fully remunerated for their time. We appreciate that finding the time to provide so much free labour is not easy, and so we are working towards a more inclusive model for the organisation.

At this time we can only accept applications from people based in Dundee or the surrounding area, as lots of on site working is required.

This role is unavailable to students, however, we encourage them to apply for Associate Committee Members, volunteer, or invigilate. For more information, see: www.generatorprojects.co.uk/get-involved
